Perry House Bed and Breakfast
Originally established in 1885, Bramwell was incorporated three years later. Coal owners, who quickly became millionaires due to the increased demand for coal, made their homes here. Bramwell was once home to as many as nineteen millionaires. The large mansions built by the coal owners became the trademark of Bramwell. The town was so busy that the Norfolk & Western Railroad stopped here as many as fourteen times a day!
Bramwell suffered during the Great Depression as demand for coal declined. The Bank of Bramwell, once the hub of southern West VA’s financial network, was forced to close in 1933. The Perry House was originally built for the Bank's president, Mr. Perry.
But today Bramwell is enjoying a time of re-birth and growth as a vacation and tourist spot. A number of the historic mansions now serve as bed and breakfast inns. A variety of community activities bring hundreds of people to Bramwell each year. These activities include a tour of homes, an Oktoberfest, a road race between Bramwell and Pocahontas, VA, a wine tasting, and the very popular Bramwell Theatre Festival. Check out our train depot which features a museum and gift shop. And be sure to take the hiking trail from Bramwell up to Pinnacle Rock. That’s an outdoor adventure you don’t want to miss.
